There are things in our past that hold us back from our future for no other reason than we allow them to have that power. When God has forgiven you, that thing becomes forgotten. That doesn't simply mean it is in the past, it means it is forgotten. Well, at least God has forgotten... people on the other hand will be people.
That leaves you... are you allowing your past to dictate your present? Does that action rule over your future? Remember to forget. Don't just put that thing aside for another day, remember to forget it. Put action to your faith. Let it go.
Often we say we have overcome something, we left it at the altar, we gave it to God and all those other Christian sayings, but did you really? If that thing comes up everytime you are attacked it will weaken you. Spiritual warfare is dangerous enough as it is, stop handing weapons and ammo over to the enemy.
When you truly are ready to let that thing go, let it go. Don't bring it up in conversation, don't think back to it in prayer, don't let others dictate how or when to let it go. No one knows the battles you have fought to get where you are. Know one will ever truly know what God has brought you through, just like you will never truly know that of another person. Let people live their lives and make their own choices and you live yours.
Having said that, remember the same is true for others. Don't go bringing up a past action of a brother or sister ib Christ, even if you have the best of intentions. Sometimes just talking about a thing can be a trigger that a person doesn't need. Don't cause someone undue pain. If the pastor is asking for testimonies and you know the person next to you has one to share, don't volunteer them. Let them speak if God places it on their heart to do so. Walk in your own shoes.
Don't get me wrong, testifying to what God has brought you out of is a powerful witnessing tool, but all things in God's time. Sharing a testimony in progress can encourage some, but it also allows the enemy grounds to attack. If you are not ready for battle you are risking not only your miracle but the miracles of those around you who could really find deliverance through your complete healing.
Remember that everyone is on their own walk. There is no set path or ladder to climb. Being on the first rung is an accomplishment because you have started. Don't be so concerned with the people at the top, go at your pace and remember to keep your eyes on God, He alone will guide your path.
Father God I thank you that your ways are not my ways, your thoughts are not my thoughts. I thank you for bringing me out of the sin and sickness I was in. I thank you for showing me mercy and grace. I pray that you speak to the hearts of those reading this and remind them they are not alone. Remind them of your love for them and teach them to forget, to let go. In Jesus' mighty name, amen.
Don't forget your smile soldier :)
